Aikido is a Japanese martial art commonly known as the ‘way of harmonious spirit’ or the ‘art of peace and harmony’. Aikido employs fluid motion combined with shapes that are often found in nature to overcome superior strength and aggression.

It is more than non-violent self-defence. Challenge your mind and body as you develop balance, posture, coordination, self-awareness and confidence.

Inspired by the best selling books written by James Nestor Breath: The Science of a Lost Art (2021) and Patrick McKeown The Oxygen Advantage (2015), this breathing workshop provides people of all ages with a quiet, welcoming space to explore the beauty and power of their breath.

Having a specific time and place that is reserved for the sole purpose of breath-work can be a great catalyst for those who find it difficult to find the space and time to breathe consciously. “On a day to day basis, you will experience an increase in energy, better concentration, an enhanced ability to deal with stress, and a better quality of life.” Patrick McKeown, The Breathing Cure.

Join Jane to stretch and strengthen in a gentle and mindful yoga session. Chair yoga allows you to perform yoga poses while seated or using a chair for balance. Chair-bases yoga offers the same benefits as traditional yoga, like boosting strength, flexibility and mental well-being.

This class is open to all abilities and ages, no dance experience is needed or dance partner is required. Learn a fun and high-energy dance routine to a classic hit that will get your heart rate up, boost endorphins, stimulate your brain and memory and leave you smiling!

15min cardio warm-up and basic stretch (options to keep it completely low impact will be available) and then you will learn a new dance routine each week. Each session gives you the chance to try a different theme or era, anywhere from 50’s to modern, musicals to movies!

If you cannot make a session there are classes in Rosebud, Dromana, and Sorrento with an opportunity to make up a session or gift your spot to a friend or family member.

Wednesdays (4 week blocks) 10.30 – 11.30am.

We begin with gentle Qi gong movements – Qi gong is an ancient Chinese healing art involving meditation, controlled breathing and movement exercises designed to cultivate and balance the body energy/Qi. Benefits of Qi gong include improved general health and wellbeing, calm clear thinking, deeper more restorative sleep, increased energy and improved circulation.

We then move into a Meditation circle for 30 minutes guided mindfulness into stillness (awareness of breath, sound and body followed by silent stillness) concluding with poetry. And whilst we are inside, we have a wonderful large room looking out to sea – and this group will continue in 4 week blocks throughout the year.

This weekend workshop is for people dealing with a cancer diagnosis. We dive into and explore the Ten Healing Factors of Radical Remission – based on the lifestyle findings of Dr. Kelly Turner, US, who has researched the long term recovery stories of over 1500 people in 10 different countries over 15 years to identify the common healing factors that have created their remarkable cancer recovery stories. Everyday people influencing their own health outcomes.

This lifestyle approach to cancer is truly Integrative medicine – supporting the best of conventional medical treatments with researched lifestyle changes and self-care aimed at optimising long term health outcomes and preventing recurrence.

Liz Stilwell, your facilitator, has been leading cancer programmes and 5 day residential Cancer retreats for a number of years for The Gawler Cancer Foundation, Yarra Valley, and is a qualified Radical Remission Teacher. She continues to lead ”Cancer, Balance & Wellbeing’ 5 day residential retreats at the Yarra Valley Living Centre, Yarra Junction.

This weekend combines teaching sessions on the Ten Healing Factors, group discussion, survivor stories, Meditation and Qi gong – loose comfortable clothing recommended.

This is the first face/face Radical Remission workshop in Australia.

Discover the many benefits of tai chi with Sifu Jenny, at Rising Moon Tai Chi School

Tai chi is often described as moving meditation, as it promotes a sense of stillness and calm through gentle, flowing movements. These movements are performed slowly and with focus (mindfulness). Breathing is deep and relaxed. It incorporates gentle stretching and rotational movements, massaging the internal organs. Each posture flows smoothly into the next, ensuring that the body is in constant motion.

Tai chi can lower blood pressure, improve balance and movement. It can also improve cognitive function, sleep patterns, and anxiety. With practise, a sense of balance and calm slowly develops to encompass all aspects of daily life.

Strengthen your body with Studio Barre Pilates right here at Mt Martha House

Pilates classes are a little more dynamic than your traditional mat class. Our classes aim to improve your flexibility and posture. You’ll also work on strengthening your core and pelvic floor. You’ll go through a range of motions while using resistance-bands and balls. These support core work while creating long lean muscles. All levels and ages welcome.
